The University of Pittsburgh’s German Department hosts the Epsilon Pi chapter of Delta Phi Alpha, the National German Honor Society. The Society recognizes excellence in German studies and encourages higher scholarly achievement. Its mission is to promote the study of the German language, literature, and civilization.

Student‑Membership Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of college‑level German (or equivalent)
- At least sophomore standing in credit hours earned
- GPA ≥ B+ (3.3/4.0) in all German courses
- Cumulative GPA ≥ B‑ (2.7/4.0) overall
- Registration as a major, minor, or certificate
How to Join
- Email a request—including an unofficial transcript—to the faculty advisor (Ulrike Malandro, ucm1@pitt.edu).
- Eligibility will be verified.
- Upon approval, the application will be forwarded to the chapter for processing.
