Before coming to Pitt, Dr. Harms taught at the University of Alabama, the University of New Hampshire, the University of South Carolina, and the University of Washington. While her research was originally focused on German literature around 1800, in particular representations of gender, she is now concentrating on keeping up with current events and debates in the German-speaking world and has a special interest in environmental issues. She also likes to constantly revise and improve the language courses offered by the German department and organizes the regular departmental showcase event. In Spring 2026, she will be on Professional Development Leave.
